I am 29 and going back to school. I am having a hard time staying focused in class and studying. I was never tested for adhd as a kid but always thought that I should have been. I'm falling behind in my classes because I sit down to study or write a paper and I my mind wanders away from what I'm doing. Does this sound familiar to anyone with adhd and can medication help?
There is no "test" per say. What you need to do is to make an appt with a psychiatrist and they will ask you all about your life, work and study habits. By your responses to these questions they will be able to tell if you have ADD or ADHD. There are some key areas. A good place for you to research is the CHADD website. Google ADHD or try entering CHADD to see if you can find it. They have the symptoms on there. You may very well have it. I have had it all my life, I'm sure even though it has never been formally diagnosed. Both of my children have been diagnosed with it and upon researching for them I've discovered that I think I have had it too. I was always described by my teachers as a daydreamer, not working up to my potential (if I had a dollar for every time I heard that one!!) etc. I change jobs frequently because I bore easily. As soon as I know the job well I have a tendency to move on to a new challenge.
All symptoms! Medication can help you focus a great deal. I felt my best while I was on Adderall. I had to go off because my insurance quit paying for it for adults. I should go back because my carrier has changed and I might be able to be treated now. Good Luck, I hope that you find the answers you are looking for!
Pj my daughters psychologist gave her some kind of test n a computer and observed her. She has adhd combined. When I told him I get bored at work once I do the job well or that I can't do a repetitive job without going crazy. He said well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Lol go see a psychologist if you have lw income there are family counceling centers in just about any county who will assist with cost. Good luck
