i have really bad panic attacks my chest will hurt and my heart will start beating fast which scares me i think about dying of a hart attack i have had my heart checked out i cant be around alot of people with out being nervous i get so stressed out over little things i dont want to come out and ask the doctor for the medication my friend gets it ad it helps her and she has similar symptons i have i just want to know the right way about asking my doctor thank you for any suggestions
what you need to do is tell your doctor what's going on with you, explain it all in complete detail, every little thing, and how often,et cetera. the doctor will give you something to help,it may not be xanax,as with me 15 years ago, they started off with other things, however i was getting worse,my attacks had me house bound,i would try to get in the car and say screw it,and start driving to town, but ended up driving as fast as i could back home and the closer i got,the better i felt, but then i started having them at home, all the time, the extreme one's where you feel like your going crazy and might do something crazy, even though your not a mean person, you feel disconnected from reality, omg,i would run and hide in a corner as if i could escape myself, and even more to it,they are just horrible, and very scary, yet i couldnt get to the doctors because of it,i was so afraid of making a butt of myself in front of ppl,but i finally went, had to go and they put me on xanax, but i didnt take it right away because im very afraid of drugs and the effects, however i finally took one on the weekend with my husband their just in case, and i never felt so relaxed, and have been on them ever since,i did stop them on my own once because i thought i was cured, but was right back on them,as my doctor said it isnt a cure, you just felt like that because of the med. sadly it's something i will always have to take,BUT alot of doctors are leary about giving out strong narcotics, because so many ppl abuse them, and they will probably test you,a pee test to make sure your not on drugs, even marijuana, here if they find anything other than what your on,they will stop your meds that day,no kidding,it's happened to a friend of my son, anyway, also my doctor really really know's me,due to the fact i had been going to him for years and knows how i am about drugs,et cetera. they will pee test me sometimes, but of course they never find anything other than what they prescribe, they know im a freak when it comes to drugs,i have given back so many meds because of side effects and it drives them nuts because they are trying to help, and tell me to stop reading them, lol,ok,i didnt mean to go into all that, just saying that you need to explain everything to them and see what he/she has to say about it,and like i said they may test you due to ppl going in faking symptoms to get drugs, but once they find your clear of that,et cetera, there shouldnt be a problem, and NO im not at all assuming that's what your out for,not at all,and i may be wrong about what they will do,im just telling you what they do here in my city. good luck to you,as i know how scary panic attacks can be,i've suffered them forever,i would do anything to not have panic disorder,so i can totally relate to you. again, good luck, and be open with your doctor:)
when I first had my attacks it was back during the time when xanax hadn't come out yet, Librium was the one they used on me at first later earlier in my life I had polion and experienced neuromuscular damage which necessitated me having an internist with a subspeciality in Pain management, I improved but still needed something she prescribed Xanax for me I could use up to four times a day but I made up my mind to stick to 1 to 1-1/2 and no more, many doctors don't like to prescribe it because of it's ability for addiction and then some patients take more than prescribed, my concern was if I take less then maybe my body won't get so adjusted to it that it will get to the point where it doesn't help, there are other alternatives that doctors use but I hope whatever the doctor prescribes for you that it will decrease the panic attacks and that you will feel more like yourself, I have always thought you never can know what it's like until you experience one. I wish you the best~
