Our loved one has been diagnosed with "schizophreniform," and doctors aren't sure if he has either one or the other ... any ideas?
i think its just another form of the disorder. these things have so many names to them. doing your own research instead of what the docs tell ya, can be much more helpful and reliable, thats my opinion. i have disputed many things with docs, and to be honest with ya, i dont have much reliabilty on them, especially when it comes to diagnosing mental illness..been there, done that !! have you tried to get a second opinion ? wishing you the best... educate yourself, cause they dont do ANYTHING for us besides lableing and writing meds ( thats their solution),
Schizophreniform is the 6 month version of Schizophrenia. It's kind of like a midpoint when drs. aren't sure of the time frame. Schizoaffective appears to be more of a mood thing with the delusions/supposedly auditiory hallucinations and the negative symptoms. A lot of it depends on when the symptoms manifested themselves. Good Luck, it is needed!
