How can I regulate my thyroid?

Hi V - Your thyroid meds. may take weeks to regulate up, so you may not feel full impact until then, but I would ask Dr. about the secondary med., Cytomel, and be sure they've tested both T3 & T4 & ratio... might help. Didn't test my T4 until someone said to have it done.
I'm having sort of same problem (not comparing to what it seems you've been goin' thru). On Synthroid for many years (112.5); they've now added Cytomel (5 mcgs.). Unfortunately, no Dr. seems to know how all my current psych, stomach, etc. meds. affect the "read" of my thyroid test, nor the efficacy of each med! But, my Psychiatrist has confirmed that the Seroquel, Trileptal, Benecar, Aciphex, Carafate, Dexedr, and every other med. definitely affect thyroid read, however, not known to what degree?! Going to my Pharmacist next. He's been very helpful. Pretty frustrating at this point because its not great to be taking more or less of anything than is needed. And, certainly no fun being drained!
Barely get going in the morning, drag through the day & end up trying to get things done at night, which of course, ruins next morning. Along with being full caretaker of my mama, I'm still having to work full time, and gained 25 lbs in 3 mos. with no changes/I don't eat anything! Must be hormones. So, I'm stymied, too. Wish I could help more, and you may already know all this... Good luck, honey!
Have you tried thyroid extract-a thyroid suppliment from the thyroid gland of an animal when it's slaughtered? Some people have problems with synthroid, and insurance companies and plans push doctors to use it. I had several doctors tell me this. When I joined this HMO last year, they didn't cover thyroid extract-only synthroid. That's fixed now. Then you have doctors that are only familiar with synthroid. I posted this last night-but something happened to it.
First you need to ask for a copy of your lab work when you get a test. NEXT IT TAKES ANYWHERE FROM 6 -8 WEEKS FOR LAB WORK TO SHOW A FINAL RESULT, BUT IT TAKES THE BODY LONGER TO FEEL BETTER. The thyroid level might still be bad as the thyroid suppliment needs to be adjusted again. A thyroid test has 3-4 parts to it, you need to get all results-not just your thyroid level. The TSH is a very important part of the test. A gland makes a synthetic hormone-and the TSH measures this hormone. I have no idea if this can be measured when using synthroid. The lower a TSH is-the more thyroid is in the body-the higher the TSH is the less thyroid is in the body. Many doctors think the TSH is the most important part of the test. THERE ARE PORK AND BEEF THYROID EXTRACTS. ONCE I WAS PUT ON PORK AND IT JUST DIDN'T AGREE WITH ME. ALSO SYNTHROID PUT ME IN A RAGE-LIKE I WAS NUTS-HEARD THAT HAPPENS TO LOTS OF COPS. THYROID PROBLEMS: DEPRESSION, CRYING, SLEEP PROBLEMS, MATH PROBLEMS-CAN'T DO A BUDGET OR THINK ON YOUR FEET, MUSCLE ACHES AND CRAMPS, HAIR LOSS, DRY SKIN, NERVOUSNESS-JUMPY, GETTING FAT OR SKINNY, HEART PROBLEMS, DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS, EASILY IRRITATED, ARGUES A LOT, TIRED-I'D WAKE UP AND SAY, "I'M JUST SO TIRED.", ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES IS EXCESSIVE DROOLING, THINGS DON'T MAKE SENSE. A PERSON CAN HAVE ANY COMBINATION OF THESE SYMPTOMS. A PILOT'S WIFE WENT TO BED AND STAYED THERE WHEN HE WAS DEPLOYED. NEIGHBORS TOOK HER TO AF HOSPITAL. THEY MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR MENTAL HOSPITAL AND CONTACTED HUSBAND AND AF FOR HIM TO COME HOME. A KID JUST OUT OF MEDICAL SCHOOL (HIS FIRST DAY AT THE BASE), ASKED WHAT HER TSH WAS-THEY PUT HER ON THYROID AND SHE WAS CURED. I HAD THAT DOCTOR CARE FOR ME. THYROID IS LISTED AS MOST UNDIAGNOSED AND MIS-MANAGED MEDICAL PROBLEM FOR WOMEN. i'VE SEEN THIS IN WOMENS' MAGAZINES AND ON-LINE ARTICLES.
IF THINGS DON'T GET CLEARED UP FOR YOU SOON TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR-I'VE ALWAYS USED A PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR. FIND THE EXACT REASON THAT YOU'RE ON SYNTHROID IF YOU DON'T START IMPROVING-ONE PROBLEM IS THAT TOO MUCH THYROID AND NOT ENOUGH THYROID CREATES ALMOST THE SAME SYMPTOMS-
My state requires a complete thyroid test once a year for thyroid patients-and has done this since the 1960s. I live in a backwoods type of state. We're in the top 10 for everything bad. TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR-GET ANSWERS- i'M SIGNED IN BUT CAN'T VOTE UP OR DOWN HOPE THIS GETS POSTED.
