... not yet been determined. I am having the most severe joint and bone pain I can ever remember. I have been taking 800 mg of motrin twice a day with little effect. It is hard just to walk around. I am trying to see if anyone has any suggestions for relieving this type of pain or know how long it will last. I have had many courses of steroids over my lifetime but nothing that has led to this kind of pain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I do not normally have joint pain, this is a new side effect for me from a prednisone taper. Other than minor high blood pressure and diabetes I have no meaningful health issues. I just want to find a way to manage this incredible discomfort!
Steroids can help relieve joint pain but it's not working for you. A call to the Dr. is in order. Tell him/her about your symptoms and see if you can taper down your dosage. You probably know it's not good for you to be on steroids for long periods. A lower dosage may be the answer and there are other alternatives for inflammation and joint/bone pain. I'm on Sulfasalazine and Plaquenil/hydroxychloroquine. Over-the-counter glucosamine and chondroitin are helpful for joints. You can get them combined in one pill. This information all comes from my Rheumy.
