I suffer from extreme ptsd and have only had my primary care physician prescribe me clonzapam. It is not doing the job anymore at all. Any recomendations on what I should take or what is available?
First tell me how much klonopin you take a day. There is Buspar, which is a med for anxiety that you take every day to prevent it. It is not related to klonopin. Then there is a number of antidepressants that are used to prevent it, Lexapro, Zoloft, and Celexa are the 3 that come to mind right now. With any of these it takes time for them to work and you would still need something like klonopin in the meanwhile. Do you have any therapy?
There are a wide variety of medications available, many are long acting and need professional implementation, as they take a few weeks to really take hold. Maybe a recommendation to a specialist is needed, as a GP may not have the knowledge, tools or wherewithal to help you in the capacity required.
I agree with the previous posts, you need someone more qualified than your
GP to assist you. Therapy is so helpful, necessary in my life. Most meds take about 6 weeks to help. The sooner you get help the better. Life can
be so much better than it is for you today. Exercise will help. My prayers
are with you.
