My doctor has taken blood work to see of I have a thyroid problem but I have to wait about 6 weeks for results! Anything I can do to not go crazy in the meantime? It's very aggravating and I really want a solution now!! Thanks! :)
Popsicles. LOTS of popsicles. And gargle often with warm salt water. Gell ice packs on the sides of your neck should feel nice too. Warm chamomeal tea with honey and lemon. You were tested for strep right? These things helped my kids through strep, and tonsilitis for years. But u may want another doc opinion. You should have been given something to help. Good luck and keep in touch.
Hi. Not sure what kind of doc you are seeing. My test results are back in 24 hours. Just call the doc office or the lab to get faster results. Also with thyroid, the number is important, not what the doctor says is important. There are many discussions on this on this site.
The swelling is not normal. Is this visible on the outside as well? Are you having difficulties swallowing?
I think you need a better doc and get some results. If you are a smoker stop right away as this causes irritation. If you have any fever see a better doc.
Have you tried Benadryl to reduce swelling?
For the sore throat part - lots of gargling with warm salt water. For your neck/ swelling - ice packs. I'd really press your doctor for the test results if the pain/swelling continues or gets worse. Regards - ElizaJane
It sounds to me like you need an new doctor yesterday. Obviously this one is not caring nor sympathetic to your needs. You have to watch your breathing, and you have unknown swelling to your throat??? For three weeks??? GO SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR YESTERDAY!! Don't feel like you are insulting this guy, because he certainly doesn't care how uncomfortable you are, nor that the swelling hasn't subsided in a long time. I'm not even sure an endocrinologist is your best bet!! Perhaps a contagious disease doctor? I'm not sure exactly what your chronic problem is, and what kind of doctor treats that , so I can't really recommend a different doctor, but you could call your primary and explain, and perhaps they can help you themselves. Best of luck to you!!
I know this response comes late. By this time I'm sure your medical issues have been addressed by your doctor.
I have the same issue. I have a multitude of health problems, almost everyday I feel that my air way is so constricted, it's hard for me to swallow. This then brings the onset of a panic attack.
I found this method to help alleviate the swollen throat feeling...
Slowly massage your neck, pinching your throat with your thumb and index and middle finger. This should eveviate the problem, but this is just a temporary fix. They're could be several underlying issues, so do consult your physician.
