How does anyone manage employment once diagnosed with Histoplasmosis?
Hi Olmstdm - Are you undergoing treatment with an anti-fungal medication? This is one of the treatment methods for the condition. Did you have a biopsy to confirm this diagnosis? Depending on how long you have had the symptoms... from what I gather during research... many people don't even need treatment and fully recover. This condition can make you weak or extremely tired so it is important to avoid the areas where the contamination occurred. I have copied some information for you just to give you additional feedback and food for thought. Perhaps you feel discouraged and really ill... it does get better. The material in "quotes" below might be helpful to you... you might want to talk with your doctor about the long-term prognosis because I cannot see you and can't judge for you how long your symptoms are going to last. I am sorry you are having to deal with this and all the symptoms but it is treatable.
Most of the time, histoplasmosis clears up without treatment. Resting and taking medication can control a fever.
If you are sick for more than 1 month or are having trouble breathing, your doctor may prescribe medication. The main treatment for histoplasmosis is antifungal drugs. Amphotericin B, itraconazole, and ketoconazole are the usual treatments.
Antifungals may need to be given through a vein, depending on the form or stage of disease.
Some of these medicines can have side effects.
Sometimes, long-term treatment with antifungal drugs may be needed. You may need to take these medications for up to 1 to 2 years."
There is a light at the end of this tunnel and I hope you can hang in there while treatment is continuing, ongoing or at least being considered.
Hi - Olmstdm... I am glad they discovered what you have and are treating you. Did your doctor mention how long you will be on treatment? But regardless, there IS a light at the end of this tunnel...
I wish you a speedy recovery and total, complete healing with no lingering after effects.
I live in an area where almost everyone has been exposed to histoplasmosis. I have plaque spots in my lungs from exposure to it. Most of us never even realize that we have it. I guess I'm trying to say unless there's something unusual about your case, you should heal quickly. I suspect the surgery was brutal, I've had a chest tube for different reasons, and that may be why you're feeling so poorly. God bless, hope you're feeling better now!
Hello - I am back. I started off with Sporanox. After 6 months, I ended up hospitalized with congestive heart failure due to extreme fluid retention around my heart, lungs, & other organs. The hospital removed 21 pounds of fluid in 48 hours. I was told my heart was fine, but it was a reaction to the Sporanox. I am now on Noxafil 3 x day fot 18 more months. I continue to require fluid management, but at least it is doable. Has anyone experienced ANYTHING like this???
If you would like to talk about this condition i would love to talk to ya!
