3 days had total hip replacement i cant sleep or get comfy on a chair just want to cry all the time
Are they treating your pain you can sleep? There are positioning devices that can help you lay in the bed right. If you get up and moving better then you'll feel better too. Its going to be good for you with a new hip once the initial pain is over. Your life will be better. Right now you're feeling pretty miserable, and it looks like you're still going go be handicapped with pain. It does get better. If you're feeling depressed, talk to your dr.
Hi Gilly, I had a hip replacement 7 weeks ago and the post operative pain I would class as severe (the worst pain I have experienced). I had an unrelated medical emergency on day 5 (I could walk with a frame to the toilet and shower by now) and at three weeks post op I went for a 1/3 mile walk (after more than 2 years of immobility). It is amazing at how quickly the pain diminishes. Just try to sleep and ask for more pain medication (they will titrate the dose very quickly to avoid potential habit/addiction issues. They had me on a Fentanyl/Ketamine cocktail for two days and then cut out the Ketamine).
Make sure you have your house set up so there are no trip hazards to accommodate and you have to have an elevated toilet seat. You may also need to rent a walking frame for a week or so if you are discharged on day 5 or 6. After that you should be able to walk and start on your physio exercises. They are very serious about people complying with rules as a dislocation can result in just refitting socket in the joint (under anesthetic) or at worst, full revision surgery which is the same as getting it redone.
Keep us informed; I'm certainly interested.
Good luck and most of all, take care.
It’s been a week since your hip replacement surgery. How are you? You and my father are on the same situation, and both of you share the same sentiments (feeling uncomfortable and unmotivated). By the way, he also had knee replacement surgery but he had it done in Warsaw, Poland. Right now, he’s not yet able to go home because taking flight is a huge challenge.
