Both Atacand (candesartan) and Micardis (telmisartan) belong to the same class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. They keep blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. So they should work the same.
I don't know what the incentive was for your doctor to change it to Micardis. You blood pressure appears to be controlled. Please speak to your doctor and he/she may be able to explain better.
