... for some crabs but since my bp crisis I've been afraid of them. I know even if I try to wipe the seasoning(the best part) off or rinse them off I will most likely still ingest some of the salt, is there anyway to counteract the effects of the salt on my blood pressure?
No, but it can be okay for some people to indulge on occasion. Ask your primary care Dr if he thinks it would be okay for you to have a crab dinner. I think as long as it is not an all the time thing, you should be okay. Salt is most detrimental when your intake is constantly high. If you eat the crabs and seasoning, you may retain some fluid for a few days due to salt intake and it could make your pressure a little higher, but ask your Dr. It may be okay to indulge once in a while as long as you stick to low sodium most days. You Dr know the condition of your heart and will know if you are healthy enough for an occasional splurge.
