Hello - I recently went to my doctor and the check my blood pressure it was at 150/100 then he checked it again 2 mins later and it went down to 140/90 ? My question is I have bad anxiety and always think I have an illness . I tend to spend all day thinking I have high blood pressure I tend to make my self not sleep or get headaches strange but it's like I am waiting for something to happen in my body so I can run to the ER . My doctor said no BPmedecibe but gave me xanax ! Will this help ? I am 5.9 240 pounds 36 year old ..why am I going crazy ?? Help - I am always on edge - scared and even start to worry when someone or even I check my blood pressure because I am already thinking it's bad
140 over 90 is not crazy high. A little high yes. Anxiety will drive it up! First of all sit or lie down. That will lower it. Then do some deep slow breathing. Whatever else will relax you too. If you can long term try to reduce your weight- even a little it will help a lot as well. Xanax will lower it by calming you down. 140 over 90 is not that bad and it's not near crisis level. Consider some SSRI drug for your worry. Also a lot of people have white coat syndrome. Their BP goes up just at the thought if being in a DR office and or having a test. I know what it feels like. Mine went up to 160 over 100 during a panic attack. Also don't smoke or drink alcohol. These are both bad for high BP. Also make meals at home from scratch as much as possible. Convenience foods loaded with sodium are bad for BP. Mine is now down to 110 over 60 so you can do it!!
When we worry about something happening to us, it usually does. The more you obsess on high blood pressure, the higher it will go. Docs are used to it being up a bit when they see you, like Jon said. It sounds like you could use a therapist to talk about and coping with your fears.
