Have high blood pressure 160-140/100-80. Don't smoke, drink. Vegetarian with low salt, high potassium diet. 60 years old. Exercise often and vigorously. Resting heart rate 50 bpm. Not overweight. Multiple meds have not helped blood pressure. Have two mild heart murmurs. Why won't meds work?
When it comes to heart disease, heredity is one of the factors you just can not control. Despite your health lifestyle you just can not change your family history. I suggest that you continue to work with your Dr in finding medications that work. I have seen people take a long time to find that right medication. One thing you can do is ask your Dr about taking something on a as needed basis. Example Take 1 pill for blood pressure over 160. This would mean you would have to monitor your blood pressure very often. You could start doing that now to show that you are capable of doing so. So keep up with the things you can control and work with your Dr till the right medication is found
Hey, just started Mavik treatment ACE inhibitor. Firstly, I wanted to check in with you: how have you been? Second, my treatment started well and my BP is in normal range. I had been on coversyl 4mg and it created a heart murmur type reaction. I stopped the treatment and began a rigorous physical/mental overhaul. I have never been really out of shape. I will be 40 this year, so really, I just want to be able to be in control for my kids and family.
I wanted to avoid any meds, but after 6 years of modifying my lifestyle I needed to start some sort of treatment. Why your question stuck out, I am I. The similar boat, workout regularily, take care of myself, eat well etc...
My major downfall is stress: I have worked in conflict zones for 15 years and a counselor working in the Human Services Sector when not abroad.
I hope you are well and still fighting the good fight! I'm with you, as the frustration is in the back of my mind all the time. Have you tried or has the Dr prescribed ACE inhibitor?
Just thought I would reach out and connect with you.
