I have many completely herniated discs that are crushing all the nerves in my spine and the little bony peices that stick off ur spine are literally crumbling in my body. My dr put me on methadone 3 yrs ago and had me on oxy ir too but at my last appt he took it away sayin that the methadone is too strong for it to work. But now I have nothing for my breakthrough pain and now im in more pain what would work so i can tell my dr. I cant take care of my kids when I cant hardly move. Thanks alot
I don't think the real question is What will work, as it is How Much of the BT drug you will need for it to be effective. To try and answer that we need to know what your dose of Methadone is? Since we don't know let me say a few things.
A drug that works great for 1 person may not work well for another. It's also not a god idea to ask for a certain drug because the Docs then think you want that drug because it makes you high. Most Docs object to this regardless of the amount of pain you are in.
Therefore, my experience with Docs and pain meds is to always let them chose the drug. If you know for a fact a certain drug is not good for you, then say so, otherwise you have to bite the bullet, and let them make you try it. For example, I now know that long term use of Morphine makes me suicidally depressed, and that Methadone doesn't agree with my system at all. So just be careful what you say Lexxy. I suggest you just impress on your Doc that you need something for BT pain, and accept anything he offers.
I am confused, did he take away your oxycodone? or your methadone or both? If he took away you oxy it could be if he is a pain management doctor he is afraid tof the FDA like a lot of them are. Mine quite prescribing short acting opiate pain drugs completely. Said FDA won't let them prescribe them. Which is a lie too I found out. They just didn't want to do all the required testing & work involved so they would rather have all patients on just methadone. If you go too high on methadone you won't be able to function enough to take care of your kids. I have been there too. Falling alseep driving etc... Maybe it's time you start looking for a new Pain management clinic. I had to, & it was well worth it My new doc said the old one could have written for oxy or vicoden just didn't want the hassle of the FDA on their backs.
