... received my first prescription, applying the patch was pretty easy. It was small and square shaped and very sticky. The prescription I filled today was a much larger patch made by Watson and it confused me. I removed the patch from it's main pouch, seperated the layers, and I was still left with this giant patch and the medicine was gel-like and the face of it wasn't very sticky. So what i need to know is, After removing the patch and seperating the layers, is their another step before applying? The gel-like medicine seems to be trapped between a thin layer of film, does that disintegrate as you wear the patch?? Please help. Thanks so much! :)
No. You just have different brand probably dueagesic,it has clear gel where as some brands are small hard paper or band aide type material. They make a guard that goes over the patch to prevent/or at least make harder to knock or just fall off because of sweat. Hope this is helpful
For all, my ex husband and I both had to start using the fentanyl patches 2 1/2 years ago. Due to gastric bypass I just don't tolerate or absorb pain meds the same way anymore and after a motorcycle accident has left me unable to walk properly, much less work, I was desperate to find pain relief. After many of our patches fell off after 24 hours, trying medical and even Duct Tape, I found that using kinesiology tape is the BEST at keeping patches in place. They're designed to hold for days, even with massive amounts of sweat. You can get precut strips at CVS or any true pharmacy. I've never seen them at a grocery or Walmart pharmacy. Tegaderm skin patches also work well but retain your heat against the skin and can cause you to absorb your meds more quickly. And everyone knows the withdrawals (especially when you don't know they're coming) can be miserable. And I don't know if anyone else has found this, but the gel packs work faster for me which helps a lot because longer months leave me a day or so short on medications.
