You certainly have a lot going on. Your body needs time to adjust. I had been on the patch in the past. From what I personally remember it didn't relieve my pain for a few days. I recall getting some relief when I put the second one on 72 hours later.
As far as feeling like crap, withdrawal is way worse than that. I think you will be ok. I am sure you have a lot of anxiety over that pump and now the wait to get it removed.
Being on oxycontin 10 years is a very long time. I don't know what dose you were at but it is astonishing that you have not become opioid tolerant. Read my profile, it will give you some insight as to where I stand.
As far as treatment for chronic, refractory pain I am a strong advocate of methadone. Before I started my treatment I did extensive research on it. I spent countless hours over a 2 week period educating myself on every aspect of it. I explored all the pros and cons (which there are none with the exception of coming off of it) which I do not ever plan to do because my pain is part of my life and will not stop until my heart does. I exposed all the myths which there are endless amounts of.
Through this I was FINALLY able to relax and know the decision I made was going to give me my life back, even better, it has given me a new life filled with physical and emotional security. What more can one ask for?
I was once a hopeless, helpless sufferer of chronic pain with an incredibly bleak future.
You need to be thankful that the patch is helping you for now. To overcome your temporary bad feeling stay busy and as active as possible. Exercise, eat healthy and share you feelings with a friend or loved one.
Don't forget we are always here to help, 24/7 you can find a loving caring person on here who genuinely is here for you. God Bless and Good Luck. Keep us posted on your progress. Sable
