Have Health Anxiety and have come of a drug called Venlafaxine which I was on for 3 years over the past 6 week came off and put on prozac I feel as if my Anxiety level are up I started on 20mg now on 40mg . Has any one else felt like that. thanks .
You really should be feeling better by now since it has been 6 weeks on the Prozac. How long have you been at the 40 mg dose? You may need to give the increased dosage time to work. I would like to share with you that venlafaxine (Effexor) affects two brain chemicals while Prozac effects only one. This may or may not explain the difference in how you are responding. If you haven't felt results after upping the dosage to 40 mgs for two weeks, it maybe time to try a different med.
I take Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) which is very similar to the Effexor you were on. It has worked very well for me. There are numerous antidepressants to try that also treat anxiety. Be patient, you'll find what works for you.
Hello Rubywine. I have never been on prozac, but have been on zoloft, its sister drug. I researched a few of my older text books and I did find this. Some of the more common side-effects are, insomnia, nausea, stomach cramps headaches and here is the one you were mentioning nervousness/anxiety. I would give it a few more weeks, to allow the extra 20mg to take effect. It will take the four weeks to begin to work, and I'm not certain when you did begin. the 20mg increase. But the answer to your question is yes, anxiety is a common side effect. I hope that you find that the prozac will help.best of wishes
Prozac has truly been, for me, the gold standard of antidepressants it has been called by many professionals and patients. I have a separate anxiety disorder called Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Prozac just can't cover it. Neither has any other antidepressant in 25 yrs. I take a benzodiazepine like Tranzene/clorazepate or Klonipin/clonazepam. If you have a separate anxiety disorder or you don't know but you have high anxiety, you may also need an anti-anxiety medicine. Something to ask your Dr. about. Without knowing if you have a specific type of anxiety or a diagnosis, it's hard to say anything more to help you.
