This is really getting on my fraggin' nerves! The only medication I am taking is Xanax. I haven't taken any aspirin, so that is not it! Any ideas, my smart and wonderful friends? I still have stinging pain in my legs, as well.

Hey, yeah ive read a little on tinnitus, i have it myself pretty badly, it drives freakin CRAZY. Especially at night when im trying to sleep. I have to sleep with a fan or something turned on to make white noise so it doesnt bother me as much. I dont know if this is possible, but it seems to be genetic in my family. My mom has it, grandma, and great grandma did too. Some common reasons for it (other than simply old age) are stuff like infections, nasty stuff stuff in your ear, or just nerve damage to your inner ear and ear drum from lots of loud noises (like rockin out to your nickleback too hard, hahah). When its just something in your ear thats making you have tinnitus it can be fixed by just getting whatever it is out (easier said than done, im sure). But if its genetic or from nerve damage it cant be fixed. Im sorry youre having that, its really a pain in the ass.
Some people believe that depression produces tinnitus and if the depression is treated, their tinnitus will be relieved. Most experts believe that the opposite is more likely the case; namely, that tinnitus may cause a depression. Therefore, treatment is required for the depression.
Causes of Tinnitus(Although otitis media is primarily a disease of infants and young children, it can also affect adults.)
Tinnitus may be a symptom of a variety of ear disorders or other medical conditions. Usually it is difficult for doctors to determine the exact cause of tinnitus.
Many disorders of the ear, including a problem with one or more of the five parts of the hearing mechanism, may cause tinnitus. Tinnitus may also be a symptom associated with:
Blocked ear canal
I hope this helps my friend... if it gets too bad just go to the hospital...

Hi Dear, I have been blessed not to experience any sort of ear problems in my entire 53 yrs. but as we have talked about, the legs are another story. I went shopping yesterday and for quite awhile too, so when i got home planned on eating a salad but sat down, took my meds and put an ice pak on ankle and then just fell asleep. I've been fine today until just now, which is 6pm my time and now the ankle is acting up and so took a pill and am making a quick run to store and then going to ice again and really will eat my salad tonight. Since i know you don't take anything narcotic, try the Hyland's for leg cramps, which is also for back and a few other things, all of which we both have, it's the natural thing i mentioned and you can take up to 3 under your tongue 4 times a day, so that's a pretty good amount, as i've found it does not last a long time, but i've only taken 2 twice a day myself as i have my other meds also.
Dede, you are so very dear dear! I shall try the Hylands stuff for the leg stinging, will send husband out today to get it.
'Tis 4:45 am right now, so alas, cannot send the man out right now, as he is sleeping... I'M SO JEALOUS!!

Causes of tinnitus include:
A sudden loud noise, prolonged exposure to loud music through PA systems or personal stereos, exposure to an excessively noisy work environment without ear protection, (eg industrial)
I receive a disability from the Air Force for hearing loss.
It's was caused by loud and prolong hearing of load noises.
I worked around and under the bottom of jet engines. a very high noise pitch.
We were not told to get hearing checked and so I just oh well.
I found out I still could have it checked for ringing.
I get a couple hundred dollars a month for this lost of hearing.
Hi y'all; Like bucky1, My tinnitis was caused by Jet Engine noise. I put in 2 years of my hitch on the good old Navy Carrier U.S.S. Saratoga C.V.A.-60, as Plane Captain of an F - 8 U Crusader [no I didn't fly it]. They issued us "Micky Mouse ears" as protection but you don't always get a chance to put 'em on in time and when the mech's kick that afterburner in , [well you gott'a be there, 'cause that has to be the loudest noise in the world! L.O.L! Also if you add the crescendo created by 2 low base loud speakers with the likes of Jimmie Hendricks , John Kay & Sparrow, Blind Faith , Canned Heat, Clapton , Cream, Steppenwolf , and tons of great Blues & Jazz Played at max. cps. for 10 +/- years... "well hey now"! I've got tinnitis in 4 different tone scales.
sacosam, I dig your musical taste! Ever listen to Miles Davis or Billie Holiday at full volume? I really don't think it is blasting my music that is causing the ringing in me ears. It continues, but as the Irish say... it could be worse!!

I have suffered from tinnitus for a number of years now. I think it was probably caused by working in a factory with very loud production machinery when I was younger. The truth is I cant actually remember when it started I just suddenly realized that the noise was present one night. The interesting thing is my mother developed tinnitus in her early fifties, shes now 85 and still got it.
Does anyone know if its hereditary? What I would really like to know is are people who suffer from tinnitus more likely to suffer from bad hearing when they get older?
Hey girl, you listed aspirin. It will most definately make your ears ring! ...
Gee guess I should have read on before opening them big jaws of mine! I got sudden Deaf Syndrome, but it wasn't ringing in the ear as a first symtom, it came after I was deaf, & they gave me enough prednisone to swell up like a dead cow! Then the ringing started, & has never gone away. Unfortunately the hearing never came back either. Go to ENT before this could happen to you. Glad your home! Mary
Hi all,
Wow another old question answered!!! And yes tis hereditary!!! Methinks I've olive pits in me ears, gotta go see an ENT doc Mary, good idea, but it is much better than when I posted this question oh so long ago!!!

Tinnitis can be associated with all types of hearing loss and may be a symptom of almost any ear disorder including labirinthitis, meniere's disease, otitis media, autosclerosis, acoustic neuroma and presbycusis... YO ! See these disorders for more info. Certain conditions can produce an actual sound near the ear that an examiner can hear with a stethoscope. this is known as "Objective Tinnitis, and can be caused by increased intercranial pressure, an aneurysm, temporomandibular jaw disorders, normal blood flow throuh an artery or vein, or a tumor pressing on a blood vessel or nerve. Drugs such as caffine, aminoglycosides, asprin , propranolol, levodopa, and quinadine can cause tinnitis. in some cases, no cause can be established. "Where do they find them words " ! ! ? ?
