Hi Mis1177! I am 29 and was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I was 23. I have been through the ringer with Dr.'s. Those who don't believe in it and wanna put you on antidepressants or antipsychotics, and those who do believe in it and will happily keep you doped up on any pain killer or muscle relaxer you want. I have personally come to the conclusion that "fibromyalgia" is both real and not real. Let me explain. I feel that it IS an Americanized generic term for chronic sore muscles. By giving it a name the pharmaceutical companies can make a ton of money off all the different medications and so can the doctors who get their kickback from what they prescribe. I DO feel, however, that it is a real disorder. It is a disorder caused from poor life style. The kind of lifestyle that is known in America. Dont get me wrong, I love my country but we are a go, go, go people. We are too busy, too stressed and malnurished. We are either over weight or under weight.
We dont eat right, sleep right or take time out to let our bodies and minds restore themselves. Having said that, I have come to the conclusion that no one thing will take away the pain of Fibromyalgia. I stay away from the daily meds and their dangerous side effects and now use Yoga, physical therapy and a diet of whole foods (no processed foods). It has not only improved my fibromyalgia but my entire overall health. i have more energy, my hormones are balanced, my skin and hair look great, everything! :) Even my periods are regular and easier. There are the occassional periods of time when the flare ups are too intense (usually periods of high stress or several days of humid weather) and I give in to pain meds but only for about a week. sorry to write such a long response but I hope this helps. I am a mother of 5 so I can relate.PS: The whole foods have also significantly improved my childrens' temperments and ADHD symptoms. :)
Would you be so kind as to list what you've taken that did not work for you, so we can rule those out in our suggestions? If you don't mind that, please click on "add more info to my question". You will probably get more responses if you let us know what has not worked.
I also have fibro and have tried a myriad of medications without much help. But don't lose hope, there are so many to choose from now.
I have been struggling with musculoskeletal pain since I was 14 and have been through all sorts of testing. Many of the doctors I had been to told me there was nothing wrong with me, but my pain is real. I am 21 now. My new doctor recently diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I have been having decent luck with a combination of Celebrex and Cymbalta. Yes, Cymbalta is listed as an antidepressant, but it also is designed to help with peripheral pain. My symptoms are not all gone, but my life is much more manageable. Flare-ups still occur, but not as often. Hope this helps.
