Hello,

I was in the ER with deep vein thrombosis this past Wednesday and started taking Xarelto the next day. The swelling has improved somewhat and I no longer have a purple leg so I figure that's some good progress. To provide some backstory, I am 37 years old and was on cyestra 35 since Oct 2016 because I had pain in my left thigh during each period and often the weeks before and after. I am otherwise healthy though my periods have become worse over the past 5 years and I have steadily gained weight despite an overall healthy diet (occasional cheat meal) and I am very active. My suspicion is that there is a hormone imbalance. In the meantime, I have nixed bread for the time being and am making a point of eating more fish, hormone-free (halal) chicken, vegetables and legumes to see if any improvement. I just started my period on Saturday and the flow is heavier than normal though manageable so far. My follow up with the hematologist is today and I plan to ask him about this but just wanted to know if anyone here has any insight on this topic. Some remedies that I've read about which reduce menstrual flow are cold compresses, blackstrap molasses, apple cider vinegar, red raspberry leaf tea, cayenne, coriander seeds, cinnamon, comfrey, iron-rich foods (red meat, preferably hormone free; pumpkin seeds, dark green vegetables, legumes) and magnesium. My question is, in your experience, do any of these things react badly with the Xarelto? If I've read correctly, heparin restricts some foods but there don't appear to be any restrictions for Xarelto. Any ideas? Thank you!

Sadie
