... pressure has always been very low, usually 90 or 100/60. I am afraid to lower my blood pressure any more, so I am afraid to take the pills. It was actually a nurse practioner who prescribed them and my Dr. o.k.'d it.. How do they know if there is portal hypertension when the regular pressure is normal or low?
I also have Hep C and have been thru the fear of taking meds. I don't know about this specific med, other than what can be looked up, but I urge you to do two things: talk to your doc about your reservations; be honest with your fears. If he's good, he will listen! Also, you may want to research nutrition ideas that may help your liver. When I was first diagnosed, I looked up my liver function and what helped and hurt it. By adding and subtracting things from my diet, I very much reduced the symptoms that brought me to diagnosis. I'm not saying you can resolve portal hypertension this way, but anything that helps the liver function can't be bad and might do good. I know, for instance, that fresh pineapple and artichokes in any form are very liver-friendly. There are also some herbs that may help, for instance, milk thistle and turmeric. None of these take the place of medical care, of course, but babying your liver only helps. Good luck! Keep us posted.
