I have a power port because of slow veins. they had to put a port in. emergency rooms have trouble accessing to port, so they keep a needle in at all times. Changing it once weekly. They do use heparin when accessing the port. Is this to much heparin?
No. Generally they use only a small amount to help keep the line clear. "low dose" to protect against blood clots while in the hospital is 5,000 units three times a day. You are getting an even lower dose than that.
People on higher doses for treatment will getting several thousand units every hour for a minimum of a week.
