I was on the pill for about 5 days(sun-thurs) but I forgot to take them for 3 days(fri-mon) between those three days I had unprotected sex on monday I started spotting and tuesday I got what looks like my period, but my period isn't until 18 day from now. Can I be pregnant? I'm 18 years old and I have no women in my life that could help me get through this please help !
Your bleeding started because you missed so many pills. Your body thinks it is time to start withdrawal bleeding. Yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant when you miss three pills in a row. Have you been on the Pill for a while or is this your first pack? because if it is your first pack, 5 days is not enough time to be having unprotected sex. When you miss three or more pills, you should throw out the rest of the pack (or save them for extra pills in case you drop and lose one) and start a new pack the same day if you are a day 1 starter. You are getting your withdrawal bleed anyway. If you are a Sunday starter, you take one pill a day until Sunday then throw out the rest of the pack and start a new one. You should use back up protection, like a condom, (and dont think "pulling out before ejaculation or cumming" is a back up method-it is not) for the next seven days. You may stop bleeding once you start the new pack, this is okay and you likely wont get your period when it is due-this is expected. You should get your period when you are on the new pack's inactive pills. If you miss two periods in a row, you need to test for pregnancy. Please respond if you have more questions or you dont understand what I have written.
From now on do EVERYTHING you can to keep from forgetting your pills. Set an alarm on your cell phone, write a note on your mirror or near your toothbrush-whatever you can think of to remind yourself! If you find you have a lot of trouble remembering to take your daily pill there are a few options. One, use a condom every time you have sex, that way you always have back up protection or talk to your Dr about long term birth control like an IUD or an implant like Norplant or Implanon. Those methods can protect you from 3-5 years depending on which one you pick and they dont require you to do anything except remember to replace them on time!
