... I'm going cold turkey off of my pain medication, after a dr made me feel like an addict. I had 2 meds I was on, Opana and oxycodone. Quit the Opana at the beginning of the month, but not the oxy til 9 days ago. 3 days into the w/d, I got pancreatiis (which is my main reason for being in pm) went to the hospital and was admitted and offered pain meds repeatedly so I went home AMA. I'm still in a great amount of pain but worried about taking any pain meds. I still have a full bottle of opana, but no matter how great the pain, looking at the bottle makes me feel like I'm a bad person if I take any... help?? And can anyone tell me how long the w/d period is from oxycodone after 9 mo's use??
No one has responded. Well let me at least try. YOU ARE NOT A BAD PERSON!!! First of all pain is pain. Your Dr is wrong for making you feel bad about taking something for the relief. I know exactly how you feel. You are not a bad person. If you read my profile, I took pain pills for years, I never once felt like a bad person. I stopped because i was not in control. I got dependant on them. Going cold Turkey is difficult. I did it. I tried for weeks. You will start to have some withdrawals. You are on your 3rd day, so you should be feeling it by now. If you still have pain though, you need to function so you will have to deal with it. Just because some DR calls you ( not professional by the way) an addict, does not mean your pain is not real. I'd see a new DR. A pain management specialist . Pancreatis is painful but I do not know how you can handle it only you can.
You know if you need medication and if you do, do not be too proud, that it is what it is for. Many of us here, took it too long and more than perscribed and some became addicts. I am sure some of us, many perhaps, if we had a chance we would have handled differently. My Dr. over prescribed, thus I became very dependant. If I stoppped I would get very sick, thus the suboxone. I would not judge you either way, proud if you did not take the pills and understand if you did. Do not for a moment think anyone knows better then you. Pain medication is for a reason. You do not sound like you abuse it but you know best.
I wish you the best and hope you feel better.
I am a registered nurse and let me tell you that that Dr should have HIS license revoked!!! NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has the right to tell you how much pain you are in. You were NOT on a huge dose of medicine and you were NOT an addict! If you were taking your meds as ordered and not running out early then you were showing no signs of addiction!! What a creep! Guys like him make me so mad I could just spit nails! You should get a scond opinion. No one should have to suffer! If you are in pain then you take your medicine! Would he tell a diabetic that they are on too much insulin, even if they eat too many carbs? NO! And that happens all the time that diabetics eat way too much crap and they just give them more insulin. Pain meds are the same for a person in pain.
Now if YOU want to quit your pain meds then that is another thing but dont let some creep make you feel bad or dirty because you hurt. I hope he burns in HELL with his ass on fire and no one will pee on him to put it out! One of these days HE will be in pain and I hope no one offers HIM any pain meds!! That is just uncalled for! Pancreatitis is a VERY painful condition. That is why the hospital kept offering you meds!! If you want to stop your meds then stop, but please dont stop them because some pig headed jerk who doesnt understand pain thinks you ought to! You go see someone with some compassion. If this guy was uncomfortable prescribing meds then he should just have told you that. Some healthcare professionals are very biased when it comes to meds. To me I think it is unethical behavior. There are pain meds to help keep someone from suffering and no one should have to suffer. Get another opinion from someone with some compassion!!
'Tis quite evident that you are NO ADDICT gurl, and please O please run, not walk out of any doc's office if you are called that horrid moniker!!!
You so obviously need pain meds, and any doc worth her/his salt would know this!
Please take your meds and do so without guilt. Why suffer needlessly?
Post again, and let us know how you are doing a_lindt???
Best wishes and God bless!!!
feel dirty? Please you let him get to you. I want you to ask yourself an honest question. Who knows what you are feeling more then you? Who? Your pain your suffering is yours alone. Many of us have been there. There were many times, many, If I did not have medication my pain was so bad i would have walked in front of a bus. Yes later I realized I was now taking to avoid being sick but I knew when I needed them. Now you ask yourself, is it your goal to get off pills because some XXX tried to make you feel dirty? or because you really and truly want to? And if you really and truly want to, can you? i mean by saying can you, can you tolerate the pain? I expect you want to but know right now you can't. You know what you need to do. You know your body. There is a time and a place to be a hero and stop cold turkey or even taper down but it does not work if you are in too much pain to function. You know this. Bless you My friend and I wish your husband was their now for you.
i suspect he would agree with though. I was former Navy. ALL my best to him also and tell him thank you for his service. You may feel weak but weakness is also succumbing to someone elses wishes when you know it is wrong.
Hopefully you have already decided what to do and are comfortable with your decision. I know i am pulling for you.
You know your body better than the doctor does. There is no reason for you to be in pain. Take the medicine when you need it. There is more to pain than just the pain itself and there are doctors that realizev this. Pain causes stress and stress causes anciety and it keeps getting worse. Find a doctor that will listen to you and ask you what helps instead of degrading you. They are out there. I know because I have one.
