I am now going to a pain management clinic instead of my surgeon for pain relief I had spinal fusion on all most my entire spine... inserted 2 rods the length of my spine and 14 screws back in may was because of a disease called kyphosis well they shaved off each disx in my spine. I also have a herniated disc in my very low back with a pinched nerve... well I was taking norco 10/325 for the pain around 6 pills a day he switched me from that to Ms contin 30 mg twice a day with no break through pain meds it does not seem to work at all? I am not getting withdrawal or anything but the pain is there and is not going away I took it thought maybe after a few hours it would kick in seeing it is time released medication well... it didnt and I did not get any sleep last night and woke up this morning and severe pain and hardly could get out of bed. should I just give it a few days and see if adjust in my system? or is there a diffrent reason why it is not working? any and all help would be great
Hi there soulreaper. Sorry to hear about so much pain! It troubles me when I hear about poor pain control. Especially when it's regarding the spine, which I know all too well. You are on the 2nd lowest dose of MS Contin, there may be a 10 mg, but I believe it starts at 20mg and goes up to 200mg. I may be wrong on that but you are not on a very good dose at all in light of your condition. And you're absolutely right, most docs do prescribe a bt med for people living with this type of chronic pain. Your doc should not have switched you, he should have added the morphine to what you were already taking. The norco's are not really meant for long term pain, it's more of a bt med. I hear about so many people, including very dear friends of mine, taking this medication for years and years. I'm not sure if you knew about the burst fractures I had repaired? Anyway, if you don't mind, I'll send you a PM and tell you what was prescribed for me. I hope you can get better relief soon. I know how you feel and you deserve to live as pain free as possible.
My best wishes,
