Hello out there can anyone answer this question. I had three stents place exactly one year ago I?I just got the okay from my Cardiologist that I can stop taking the Plavix because i need some dental work done. He recomended 7 days prior to the dental work. Hes of the opinion that until there is conclusive effidance that stoping Plavix after one year is optimum anti clotting treatment for patient's who have had DES placement that patients should stay on plavix as long as they can. My question is 1) Has anyone had any problems with this lenght of time without the protection?
Good question! I've had a heart attack, triple by-pass, and another stent over the space of two years. My doctor recommends stopping the Plavix after one year. I'm very nervous about going off of it. There are so many different opinions between doctors. I've researched on the internet and there seems to be a difference of opinion there, too. Does anyone out there have some good information? (My dentist and cardiologist both recommend stopping the Plavix prior to dental work because of excessive bleeding that could occur but you could go back on it after the work is done.)

Given the complications that could potentially arise if you stop your medication it would be wise to follow the advice of your specialist and keep taking Plavix.
All the best.
