I have Fibromyalgia , Neck & Back nerve damage & Carpal Tunnel w/ numbness & pain in hands. I need long term pain relief, as I dont think this is going away anytime soon !!! I want to change to a longer lasting med. Does anyone have suggestions ?? Thanks
Welcome to the site!! You may benefit from a longer acting pain killer such as Oxycontin or Avinza (morphine). Both of these are narcotics, stronger and longer acting than the Norco.
You may also benefit from a medicine such as Lyrica, Neurontin or Cymbalta. Each of these is prescribed for nerve pain. They are non narcotic and may help you reduce your use of narcotic opoid pain relievers.
Hope this helps some,
one of the things as you suggested is that you may have used this (it's a shorter acting medication) with you having unrelieved pain you need a medicaton that can give you the relief that lasts and previously mentioned drugs contain acetaminophen and you are not suppose to take more than 4000mg per 24 hours of the tylenol content, they usually in pain such as this have longer acting drugs such as MS contin, Oxycontin, Flexeril patches, I have neuromusclar damage and problem associated with me having history of polio, this past winterI caught a fall after we got a terrible Ice storm, my pain management doctor placed me on Opana (extended release) 40mg. i take one every 8 hours, some people are able to use it every 12 hours, and I take hydrocodone for breakthrough pain but I don't have to take but very little of that.
there are other drugs that are used for nerve pain such as Lyrica, Neurontin and some patients have good results with those, it's just a matter of finding out what works the best for you. Once you obtain the relief you will see that it makes a world of difference in the way that you are able to function, eat, sleep and how you feel in general. It is my sincere hope that you are successful in finding a medication that gives you the kind of relief necessary for you to function at an optiomal level, best wishes,
Thank you LaurieShay & Caringsonbj for your responses. I do take Nuerontin & Cymbalta they do nothing for my pain. However I continue to take as directed. I am interested in the Oxycontin as I hear alot regarding its pain relief, in addition I hear of its addiction. (a little scary) My doctor has mentioned the Fentanyl patch, but thats as far as I got. I am lucky if she refills my norco on time or returns my calls!!! I feel as if she thinks I have some sort of drug seeking behavior, makes me frustrated, all I want is to be out of pain & feel good again, Ya know? Well thanks again new friends I look forward to chatting w/ you all. juicy421
