Do you have GERD (gastric reflux)? This is common with people who have gastric reflux. The acids that back up into the esophagus can cause scar tissue bands and these scarred areas can get tight and do not want to stretch to let food down. You need to consult with a GI doc. You may need a procedure to dilate the esophagus to break up the bands of scar tissue.
There are also physical things that can cause it. Strokes, other neurological problems, diverticulum in the esophagus, etc. Please see your dr for an exam and possible a swallowing evaluation.
