I hope everyone is having a great Friday. I will be seeing my "regular" doctor Monday and my "pain" doctor Wednesday. I need some advise about which pain medication y'all think might work best for me. I am currently on Oxycontin 30mg x2 and Oxycodone 15mg. as needed up to 4 a day. I didn't realize until they took me off the Soma how ineffective the "new formula" Oxycontin is. I do have digestive problems due to a colectomy and I really think the Oxycontin is going right through me. The only relief I am getting now is from the Oxycodone immediate release. Any and all opinions are needed. Please help!!
Hello friends. I need some advice on pain meds to ask my doctor about?

My pain mgmt doctor is willing to switch me to another long acting pain medication. Just wondering what works best for all of you. Thanks in advance.
Hi Teri. We've never chatted before, but I just read your question and clicked on your avatar Sometimes I think how things are for so many of my friends and read about how life, with pain has been for you. It seems to be a lot of it, pain, going around.Having said that, welcome to the site (I'm late as usual, most everyone who knows me realizes that its my trademark of sorts). You know you've some great company here. Lots of caring to say the least. I don't have an answer to your question, just wanted to say, things will become better for you. Most often than not, it holds true, siomply because theres lots of people pulling for you. Its what makes this site unique. best wishes and try not and worry (easy for me to say huh?), yup, I'll worry for you. Ha! Goodnight and best wishes.
Do you have a reason for not asking your 'regular' doctor to prescribe the Soma? I have found that the only people that are claiming it is being removed are the pain clinics. My Neurologist as well as my Internist neither one have heard about pharmacies pulling Soma. Neither had CVS. Don't you find that ironic??
Anyway, I am trying to get a good 'coctail' of meds to help me with my Fibro. Will take several weeks, I am sure. I plan on asking for Soma when I go in to see him next as I have been struggling quite mightily, of late.
Do you think that is possible to inquire?
Best to you, TLC. (gotta love those initials!) :)
I completely agree-the new formula isnt nearly as good as it was before they changed it. I'm like you-I think I derive all my pain relief from my short acting! MSContin isnt bad but you may have trouble with all long acting drugs since you had a colectomy. Perhaps they might just "up" you to oxycodone 30mg and you can take a half or a whole one 4-6 times a day and just do away with the OxyContin? Or take the 15's 6 times a day instead. That might work better for you since your digestive tract is compromised, it may effect the way the long acting drugs work for you.
