Unfortunately, i was bitten on my face by a dog on the weekend. I have had surgery (15 stitches on upper lip), and have been told i will need more after care to try to reduce the scarring as much as possible. Has anyone had any history in this area, or have any suggestions how i can best treat this wound now and in the future to reduce scarring as much as possible? I'm really gutted about it : (
Hello all, I'm hoping someone in the community may have experience in plastic surgery?

Hi, just wanted to add an update. I had my stitches out yesterday, from the surgery that was done the day after i was bitten, and it is looking a little better. Like a few people suggested, i thought i should see a plastic surgeon sooner rather than later, but i've been told i need to let it heal first, and to be seen in 2 months!? I can't afford to go private. Also it is a difficult situation with regards to compensation, as it was my brothers dog : ( It happened when i was looking after him last weekend. I guess i'll just wait it out, and what will be will be. Thanks everyone for your advice! : )
OH I am so sorry, you must be in so much pain,i dont know anything about plastic surgery, but I'm sure the rest of the gang will be along to help you with your q's,just wanted to post to see how you were!! I can imagine how gutted you must be,you poor pet!!
My wishes and hugs to you!!x
Oh Delila, I'm so sorry!! Years ago, I dated a guy that was bitten by a large breed dog (cannot recall the name of the dog at the mo) but his face was operated on and you could NOT tell where he had been bitten, the owner of the dog paid for all his cosmetic surgery, and I don't mind telling you, he was prettier than I.
Fret not, you will be your lovely self, it just takes a bit of time!! You are in my prayers D, and I will keep you there.
So sorry Delilah to hear of your injury.
I would see a plastic surgeon ASAP. He/she might be able to do something now around existing sutures since still fairly fresh instead of waiting for scar tissue to form. With a good plastic surgeon I think your face will be just fine!!
Take good care of yourself. Go to a vitamin specialty place and get some arnica and bromoline pills. The arnica looks like little saccharin pills. U can take 5 of these 3x/day for bruising. Also bromoline, pineapple extract pills will also help with bruising. Take 1 pill twice a day.
Remember... contact a plastic surgeon ASAP. Be well... pup
Oh Delila I'm so sorry. How scary! You work as a vet assistant, dont you? I was going to say the same as pup-see a facial plastic surgeon NOW before it even heals. they may be able to bypass some future surgeries by you going to see him before it has healed. As Sweet said, plastic surgery now days is excellent and it is very likely that you will be fixed well enough that you will not be able to tell by looking that it was ever there. How are you doing as far as post traumatic stress? You feeling ok to help with other dogs? If you are having any problems or nightmares or anything like, you should speak to a counsellor. Dont worry. They WILL get you fixed so you wont be scarred. Keep an eye out for infection. Call the Dr if you have any redness, swelling, increased pain, increased tightness in the stitches, purulent drainage-all that good stuff. Infection is an issue with these kinds of injuries. hopefully they put you on a prophylactic antibiotic. Keep us posted and you will be in my prayers for a full recovery!
I was shocked when I read it was you. I'm so sorry. I will say a prayer for you. I think you will be fine because plastic surgeon nowadays are advanced in their work. They can fix anything. Take one day at a time and you will get through this. We are all here for you if you need to chat o.k.?
hey delila sorry to hear u got bitten. i had an accident and had to go thru cosmetic microsurgery. my chin got all broke, there was tissue loss as well and it was a big jagged wound. today people think its a dimple on my chin so dont worry if ur surgery is done well it will leave very little scarrig which when u massage it regularly with sweet almond oil will mostly disappear. one q where exactly is the bite ? take care with best wishes ak42
