Would this be a good switch? I am on the 50mcg patch every 48hrs but am about to reach the "doughnut hole" and will have to pay for everything. Also, Methadone is out of the question. Thanks All!
The patch is considered a longer acting pain treatment, the pills you mention may last longer than some pain pills, but not several days like the patch. At least in theory the patch lasts longer, they have recently and I do mean very recently changed some of the oxy meds and people are really complaining about them. If you join that group, you will see how many questions have been posted about the change and how many people are upset about it. Tell your doctor about your donut hole and financial situation and he may be able to help you with that. Most doctor's don't realize if their patients are having financial difficulties but if you make them aware, they are glad to help. Your pharmacy may be aware of programs to help and sometimes the manufacturer of the medications have programs to help. Hope you get some help soon and feel better.
Dilaudid and Fentanyl both have generics and the Opana doesn't, so I seriously doubt if it will be any cheaper then either of those. Different Brands of the Fentanyl have different affects I think. I have used both the adhesive brand and the gel res. one and personally I prefer the adhesive one. I would talk with some pharmacies in your local area to ask them about different pricing and what generic brands they carry and what type of patch they are. You would have to get more of the pills and the dose would have to be comparable to that of the amount of fentanyl you are on so switching may actually be worse for you. Talk with area pharmacies and with your doctor and see what it is that you can do and what the pharmacy and the doctor would reccomend. Take care and good luck.
