I have been consuming between 10 and 15 shots a day for the last 11 months, I am hoping that gabapentin taking 600 mg 3 times a day with only.5 mg of Xanax in the morning will help my withdrawals. Anybody that has any information about this looks really be helpful because it's time to quit. Thank you all for your opinions in advance.
Gabapentin is a very common drug to treat nerve pain for diabetics. It might be able to help you withdraw from alcohol, but 600mg 3x a day can make you really drowsy. Some people are not drowsy at all for taking 900mg 3x a day. Xanax might provide short term alcohol withdrawal, but Xanax is highly habit-forming. The combination of these two meds can help one to withdraw from alcohol to some extent, yet you might be susceptible to chemical dependence on these two Rx. Always drink lots of water along with taking the drug reduces the side effects. Water intake itself can help you to withdraw alcohol, but it's not fast acting. With your heavy alcohol usage, it's probably tough to withdraw from alcohol just by taking these two meds. Be aware of the adverse side effects of these two meds. Xanax can make you really agitated and confused. Some people state that once they are on Xanax, it's a lifetime thing and they just cannot live without it.
Hi, I think you may find Diazepam (Valium) more helpful than Xanax with alcohol withdrawal because of it's longer half life. One or two 5mg Valium was all I needed daily when I quit a similar drinking habit.
All the best with it, the first three weeks of cold turkey is the worst (or at least it was for me).
A final good luck for good measure.
