I used to take 10mg melatonin during the day and 10mg at night for about 5 months. This was before I knew it was harmful when taken during the day. I'm wondering if there are any health issues I should be worried about 2 years later. What are the long term health effects of doing this? Also, what are the short term health effects of using melatonin during the day?
I would take this one up with your doctor to be sure. You cable take melatonin safely in the day - this is common among shift workers. But it is dangerous to be taking melatonin both night and day. The brain only produces melatonin at night and with the onset of darkness... The brain is not designed to produce melatonin 24/7... I don't know of any long-term health effects in situations like these but I am also not aware of any research that has been conducted to establish the long-term health effects of exposing the brain to round-the-clock melatonin. If you are worried I would recommend a visit to the doctor
