I am 16 years old and for as long as I can remember I frequently get a headache/migraine and nausea almost every month, this usually happens when I don't sleep enough and also have a runny nose. The headache hurts quite badly and I can't do anything on the days I get this problem but after I sleep and wake up, I feel great.
Hi, i know how you feel, when i was a teenager i would get migraines weekly and it is so debilitating, i understand. There are a lot of options available to you to treat or prevent future migraines... Sumatriptan is a good medication used to treat the migraine when you get the first onset symptoms. Or you can opt for a beta-blocker (such as Propranolol) which is taken daily to help prevent migraines occurring... and tricyclic antidepressants (such as Amitriptyline) are also sometimes used to prevent migraines. I would suggest you have a talk with your doctor about which way to go.
Yes, Delia has very good suggestions for you. Knowing what causes your migraines, you might also consider making a point of getting more sleep and taking antihistamines which are quite safe. I know that it can be hard to go to bed on time, but it could save you from going on to medications. Wish you the best.
