I started with a fever on Wednesday, September 20. Progressively stayed around 102.0, with chills, headache and slight sore throat. Saw a doctor on Saturday, September 23. Was told it was viral and would run its course. On Thursday, September 28 I received a call stating it was strep and was ordered a prescription for amoxicillin. I am currently on dose 4, and fever and headache have returned. Suffered from a headache all day yesterday. No fever present from September 26 until this afternoon, September 29, even after taking the doses of amoxicillin. Headache is still current. What should I do?
Keep taking it to ensure you've cleared it. Untreated strep can lead to rheumatic heart disease so don't take it likely and finish your coarse. It is possible to have a viral illness (like the flu which can cause a fever) to be superimposed on a bacterial infection. Continue taking the antibiotics and finish the coarse as directed. If a fever still persists after 10 days of onset, see a doctor.
