.My uncle has had 3 cervical disks fused together and the day following the operation he could not swallow food or drink. He has been in hospital for 2 weeks following the operation due to this complication. Does anyone know what could have caused this as no one at the hospital seems to know. He has had further xrays to see if the plates have moved and they havent - help!
I cant believe they cant find anything wrong with him. Its weird that before he was able to swallow now he cant i would definantly get a second opinion. Sometimes doctors are real lazy at wanting to do their job. It took three doctors to diagnoses my sister in law with gillian barre disease. Its fairly rair and because no one wanted to run the right tests to see what was wrong(lazy doctors) she got worse till i took her to my doc that orderded the right tests to find out what was wrong with her. I would go ahead and find a new doctor that wants to find out what is wrong with your uncle.
Well this operation does involve that area throat neck and I can understand problems, but they, inability to swallow, should have gotten better. Lots of nerves in that area and an accidental cutting of the nerves that go to throat may have happened. Yes definitely go get 1, 2, or even three different opinions to resolve this. If no one seems to know at this hospital then you should consider going to a hospital that does know. It is inexcusable that they would not know at your present hospital.
