... me for surgery on Monday. He showed me the MRI scans, if I fall or get jolted said I could sever my spinal cord. I'm scared out of my mind about this surgery. I am 33 and have two little kids. Has anyone had this done? What can you tell me about it?
I havent had this done but my BIL has. he was told the exact same thing as you, if he were to fall or jolted, it could have severed his spinal cord too. He found out at a chiropractors office where they were about to put him into traction and his wife insisted he have an MRI before they did the traction and it was good she did because had he went into traction, they would have paralysed him. He went through the surgery and is now fine!! I saw that no one had answered you so I just wanted to tell you of this similar situation. I can imagine this is very scary to you! I know I would be scared too! They will go in and remove the disc material and possibly some of the bone to clean everything up in there. You wont be able to lift and carry your little ones for a while so you may need help. whatever you do this weekend, try to just lay quietly and do nothing to put yourself in danger of falling and stay out of cars until ready to go to the hospital and I wouldnt pick up the kids either. Do you have anyone to help you with your little ones this weekend and after surgery? If you do not then talk to the social worker at the hospital to see what is available. I hope all turns out well for you. A neurosurgeon is the best type of doc for this sort of thing.
