I would be interested in trying this new medication but i am very sensitive to meds. and just spent 6 horrible months weaning off paxil i just don't want to add fuel to the fire. but relief from the pain and symptoms of fibro would be a blessing. I read a lot of the reviews, and was encouraged by the positive feed back on this new med. but i still have my fears of taking any thing. i noticed one has to be closely monitored by their doctor can you tell me the reasons for this? Thank You for your help , from Montana.
I have Fibromyalgia and a back injury, and tried Savella for 10 weeks. I also suffer from anxiety and depression, and this medication made both conditions worse, and offered ZERO pain relief. This is just me, and everyone is different in how they respond to meds.
But I am also VERY sensitive to meds (seriously, I had problems with agitation on 2.5mg of Prozac). So, I'd titrate up on the medication very slowly, if I were you. If you have negative side-effects that don't go away after 4 weeks, I'd try another med like Cymbalta, Lyrica, or Neurontin (all used for Fibro).
Don't let my answer scare you too much. As long as you don't jump up in dosage by a huge degree, your body should get used to the medication. And it might be very helpful for you, personally.
I think that part of the reason these meds work is a placebo effect, that people believe they'll work, so their perception of pain when taking the meds is lessened to match their expectations. But this is just my own POV, based on the research on depression and SSRI/SNRIs (they're not really all that effective compared to placebo, unless you're suicidally depressed).
Hi Vicki & Silmarian, I too suffer from Fibro & arthritis. You do have to be very careful about changing your dosage, up or down. I tried the Lyrica. I gained 15 lbs in 2 weeks. Which is typical with this drug. When they upped the dosage i couldn't remember anything. Dead end the wrong area I guess. Well, keep your chin up guys. And keep in touch. God Bless.
Dear Vicki Brumwell:
I haven't tried Savella I am so sensitive to so many medications that honestly I am afraid of what a new drug will do, that must sound terrible but that is truthful, I live with chronic pain which is neuromuscular from polio and the doctors feel I probably have the fibromyalgia as well but the only drug anything close to paxil that I have ever taken has been Lexapro and that was for a short time, now I take a low dose of Xanax because of a history of previous panic but I tolerate it and it seems to help, I like being on the least doses that help and that I can tolerate, the one thing I know by past history is every once in a while I will discontinue or decrease pain medication and I have a bad time, that's the reason I am so late in response to your email, one things for sure I do care and if I can't do anything else the one thing I am always willing to do is encourage others who go through any of this! I don't care what or how much pain or other things I have at least I can try my best to encourage someone else I think it helps just knowing that someone else cares! Take good care
