If so were there any side effects, and did it keep you infection free?? Thanks
I hate to answer your question this way, but no I haven't. I did however, in the past suffer from frequent bladder infections, if you try Azo Standard (tis over the counter) it MAY prevent uti's.
Have you seen a Urologist yet? I was disagnosed with "Busy Girl Syndrome"... I am not kidding, that is what it's called!!! It just means one is too "busy" to go to the bathroom while at work, and truly empty one's bladder.
Anyway, my point is, try the Azo, it turns urine a bright orange, so don't wear your lovely undies when you take it, it worked for me !!
Wishing you the best, and let us know how it turns out,
Hi Adeline, no, I have not tried the
medication you stated. I have UTI's about one a year and they always require two or more rounds of antibiotics to treat (and I am allergic to many antibiotics so it is dangerous for me to be on them so much - they may not work if something life-threating comes along). Then I go for a time where it feels like a UTI is starting. This past May I had a uTI that started with incredible pain! I've never had a UTI so painful! I've had 3 rounds of antibiotics (2 were for the actual infections - for the 3rd no bacteria was shown). On the 5th day after the antibiotic stopped the severe pain returned. My Urologist says I have IC - Intersitial Cystitis. I've been researching it and have found many who thought they were having UTIs and they actually weren't - it was IC. There is a very specific diet to go on and it definitely has helped but occasionally I have severe pain. You may want to google this and read up on it - some of the suggested treatments may help you, even if your UTIs are actual infections. Some people said that their urine showed increased leukocytes, but not the nitrates, so for a long time their docs treated them for an infection when it very well have been IC. The antibiotics help the pain because they reduce inflammation. Also, be very sure to treat your gut with high dose, REFRIGERATED probiotics. Of they aren't refrigerated they aren't alive and will do you no good. If you've been on antibiotics for awhile and were not treating yourself with probiotics you may need more help, as the yeast will have a stronghold. Lots of people with IC have problems with yeast also and need to follow a yeast-free diet. I hope you can get things resolved - this living with bladder pain is not good. By the way, unless you are fighting an active infection, cranberry juice is not good. It is very acidic and can really irritate IC. Best wishes to you -
Back in December 2010 I was infected by one of those antibiotic resistant hospital infections as a result of having a sytoscopy.
After hospitalization on an IV, I was discharged with a PIC line to enable IV treatments at home with Amikacin. That treatment as ended.
I am currently taking the powder fosfomycin.
The UTI symptoms go away and the sneak back. The recent urine cultures were clear, no infection. However the symptoms keep repeating. When they return I take Monurol, the UTI symptoms clear in a day or two.
I have had no significant side effects, loosens stools but no diarrhea.
I am under the care of an infectious disease doctor at Newton Wellesley Hospital, a PCP and a urologist.
I am seriously considering trying d-mannos as an alternative to Monurol.
Fosfomycin is very expensive and it does not seem end the problem.
Any user comments will be most welcome
