I just noticed the date on this post and I hope you are doing well with the decision you made.
I was 36yrs old when I got pregnant, unexpectadly. After a high risk pregnancy my daughter was born in 2002. I had medical issues that qualified me for gastric bypass. I weighed 267lb. In 2006 my freind and co-worker convinced me to have the surgery that she had 3yrs earlier. I had it done in Sept,2006. My freind died of complications 3 months later, she was 39yrs old.
The day I had the surgery I woke up in such pain and I was sick and stayed sick, in the hospital 7 days. During that time I lost 30lbs. I knew this was the biggest mistake of my life and it was non reversible. When I went home my energy level was next to nothing. I did not eat or drink for up to 5 days at a time. I felt like I should have died too. I was back in the hospital within 10 days after the surgery became infected and the Dr. cut my stomach open leaving me with a 9inch scar. In the first 2 yrs following the surgery I was hospitalized for dehydration more then 3x, malnutrition 3x, anemia and spinal menengitis. I lost another 60lbs. by then and was missing allot of work. My medical conditions only got worse and I was on so much pain medication that I stopped eating all together. Once again the hospitalizations outnumbered work days. Malnutrition was my biggest problem. When my Dr. told me that my body was eating itself because I wasnt feeding it, well the sound of that just made me so disgusted with any type of food I stopped eating and ended up in the hospital with MRSA. I evin took this bacteria home to my daughter. In 2012 I got a tumor in my right hand and had it surgically removed. It came back 3 mos later and it was removed again. This time I wasnt so lucky and the Dr. had to cut my nerves and tendons leaving my right hand deformed and I have 10% use in this hand. Im right handed. I couldnt do my job I had been doing 16yrs. I retired in 2013. Since then my colan has twisted due to the bypass and I am scheduled to have major stomach surgery, again in Nov.2014. I have lost a total of 185lbs and am the most unhealthy I have ever been in my life. I didnt start beeing hospitalized or having surgeries until I had the bypass. I have had 3 this year already and am scheduled for another. My message to you is something I wish someone would have said to me 8 yrs ago : PLEASE DONT HAVE THIS SURGERY... YOUR LIFE WILL CHANGE FOREVER! You have a 50/50 chance this could be the worst or the best decision of your life. If you do have it done... GOD BLESS YOU! Muckie
