I'n diabetic and overweight, and my g.p. has suggested bariatric surgery to help "fix" these. But I'm very worried about the side effects, removing half my stomach, thing like dumping syndrome...
The only problem fixed by this is your ability to overeat. You will still have not dealt with your food selections process and diabetis problem... just your capacity.
Any surgery is Major Surgery, no matter what they say in the ads or on TV.

I'm wanting to look into lap band. At least it is removable. I think it is a better option than traditional gastric bypass where they cut the stomach all up. There is a good website if you just google lap band. Diabetes runs rampant in my family. I dont have it yet but wouldnt be surprised if I dont start showing signs of it. I do have high blood pressure and although my BMI is not high enough to have the surgery adding the high blood pressure factor puts me in range to qualify. I also have low back issues that I think could be helped by this surgery too. It does still affect the way food is absorbed and also the absorption of some of the fat soluable vitamins. I still think it would be worth it.
