to ensure that a subsequent one did work? I had one with my daughter several yrs ago that didn't work at all. It was the most awful experience ever. I had no pain control at all, even though they were giving me something through my IV once in a while. I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second child and am so nervous about birth because I want to prevent the same thing from happening again. I have seen a chiropractor who has said he sees nothing wrong with my back that would prevent an epidural from being able to work. However, I was already pg when I first went to him so he could not do x-rays. He doesn't see or feel any serious problems, though. What are the odds that my second epidural will also not work? Is a spinal block better than an epidural? I know I will probably get some answers saying I should just have a natural birth, but I am 100% sure that I do not want to. My first birth was very similar to a natural birth and it is something that puts me in an instant state of panic even thinking about the pain. I will appreciate any and all answers from those of you who've been through labor with various methods of pain control. Thank you so much for your time in answering!
My first epidural only took on half of my body, but wore off completely during the birth of my 10 pound son. But, I requested an epidural with my last child, it worked very well, she also added duramorph into the epidural catheter so it would not affect the baby & I had a completely pain free labor & delivery. Also, a spinal goes right into your spinal column & after delivery, you will be flat on your back for up to 8 hours to prevent leakage of fluid that could cause a "spinal headache". I would guess it's all in who administers it & I would be sure to mention that your last epidural did not work. Good luck & I hope that you have a much better experience with this birth than the last!
