I filled my last rx <for breakthrough-pain medication>for the month, on 5/25. I was given the caraco-sun pharmaceuticals brand of generic roxicodone and, after 6 years on the same dose, these (224) "caraco" 30mg, oxycodone tablets have no pain relief what so ever! ~
I took the medication for 5 days-even doubling my dose, to be sure it wasn't just tolerance. I am not taking another tablet as it has zero effect and my pharmacist will-not exchange them for another brand that works. ..Comments? And yes-i filed a "defective medication" report with the fda. Help! ~and god bless...
I'm not sure that I've ever had this kind of generic. the only generic I've ever had trouble with was the Ethex brand which gave me very wicked headaches. The others I've had have been ok so far. Have you asked the pharmacy to order a different generic for you or do you have the option for your Dr to put brand name only on your script? I know it wont help this time but it might for next. Have you spoken to your Dr about the problem. Perhapshe/she will give you a new Rx that you could fill at a different pharmacy. (it is doubtful they will but the worst they can do is say "No"-it doesnt hurt to ask on the chance that your Dr has heard this before) Maybe you could use something different for this month too. It would be worth mentioning to the Dr. It puts you in a rough spot to be stuck with crappy medicine for a month!
YES, we just filled a prescription on 11/18/13 and it was filled with the caraco brand of oxycodone and my husband has to take more than the prescribed dose to get close to the same relief from the Mallinckrodt generic. Your post is dated 2011 but I wanted to add a new post with the same complaint. Given the sensitive nature of narcotics it is a concern he'll finish these pills sooner than what was prescribed and will have difficulty getting a new prescription. Have you had any other problems since you wrote this post?
Agree! FDA Neds to know about..again!
FDA had an investigation with this Company few year's ago ( 2010) with finally having their factories shut down in 2012..
They ( Sun) also have stated they place only13.5mg of Oxycodone in each of their 15mg tablet's.. ("Filler's" are the remainder %)... So they say...
(It is less medication for ALL their tablets, depending on your strength)
According to their compound description's,which I had to read recently.. Unfortunately..
Perhaps, depending how they make them in batches could be to blame as well? Less potency..
Sadly, I just had my 90 day supply filled last week, which was I thrilled not to have to go to my normal Pharmacy at Publix ( In Florida) and decided to be simple and use my Insurance Company instead..
Yeaaah..Never have had prior filled through online, as I have used our local Publix Pharm for year's.
I had take only one tablet of my Oxycodone 15mg which resulted in a BAD..Migraine with aura ( haven't had aura in over a year)..about 45 minutes to a hour after consuming. I never will EVER Take this again! Reaction!!!
Also.. During that migraine when I sat crying and couldn't see and blurred vision with severe broca's aphasia ( Very slurred speech) ..My brain felt mushy on my couch, as I sweat fiercely, left hand and fingertips numb and felt my weak heart suffer more irregularly... I had with my Hubby holding my hand in panic with his cell next to his side for 911 and my 12 year Son freaking out trying to hug me, cause he though I was having another stroke..
Nice, right?! Talking about ruining our entire weekend with our four kids the next day! migraine hung-over.. :(
You'd think that the one "Sun Pharma" ( Caraco) tablet would of helped that pain? Ehhh.. No... So, I decided to take a Tylenol for the inflammation and pain instead, as I couldn't feel my entire left side and aura was SO bad, my jaw & head pain was SO bad too...
Which for me ... SCARY ..Again!
Thankfully the Tylenol had helped immensely for what I was going through.. I have taken several other manufactor's Brand's of Oxycodone for nearly a year from Publix and NO issues, until this one..
(I've had a stroke after a bad dental extraction, at age 34 then. Shortly 3 weeks following a incredibly "hidden" (Surgery Center didn't mention to us about my dying for 8 minutes and doing CPR to revive me..with much damage after, I suffered cardiac arrest at the negligent hands of the Surgeon's not paying attention to the O2 levels, talking about their dinner that evening,as I was their last patient. nerve damage ect too..Too much anesthesia overall is what it was... An overdose. Thx surgery center!)
Since that time in August 2012, I've taken more care for what's in my diet, meds ect..
Can't imagine my surprise when these Caraco meds brought on a scary hemiphlegic ( complex ) migraine with aura ..Doing better now and also now after 16 months from my stroke... Blessed!)
Another thing I read into about certain companies:
They include gluten and other crud in their ingredient fillers, which I specifically request my Insurance Company Pharmacy NOT to send me this generic form of oxycodone 15mg.
Cause of a person's body tolerance ( weight/allergies ect) Celiac's/ gluten sensitivity..
This had ruined my entire weekend with our four children.. Drained me afterwards, made incredibly ill and have to now see my Pain Mgmt Doctor for another script..Omm Hopefully now, so I can be alright and no worries...
Annnnnnd staying away from my Insurance Co's home delivery.. Ugh..
I think the strength/ potency in this one though is poor actually and not the first time this Company has been in hot water too!
Wouldn't doubt they are cutting corner's by this.
Believe another investigation should be underway here soon,by what I've read lately and I am filling with the FDA, in regards to this issue too, cause it should be told about their fillers first..Although hadn't been sadly... FDA Approved?? Idk..
(They choose not to mention to my Insurance Company prior to sending them out to me..Opps..
Good One Caraco & my Insurance Company!
Hey Thx! ;) Good Luck everyone and Be Safe!
I just recently filled my script for Oxycodone 30mg, and got this crap from Caraco Pharmaceuticals. I have been in pain for a month waiting for it to be time to fill my next script. This Caraco place has been shut down by the FDA before for not meeting FDA standards, not once, or twice, MANY TIMES. This info is public information and is available on the web. There are short news clips even, and the FDA actual reports of their findings, and the reason the need to shut them down. This larger, light-blue pill is a joke. This is a Class II medication, so good luck, no one will take it back, and you Dr is under the DEA laws so he cannot just write you another script. Be very careful when you are filling your Class II meds, well, any meds. Look at the bottle before taking it home, don't accept less than you are used to. Question new pharmaceutical carriers on your prescription bottle before you open it, or leave with it.
Ask you Dr to write an order for non-generic (not for crap from over seas). I have been in awful intermittent pain to the point that it is hard to even wash my hair, or walk around my own house, this is no the way I ever used to be. I was always touching up paint here and there after cleaning the house daily, wash my own cars, do my own yard. People get ill, they need their meds to be able to function, which I haven't been able to in the longest, not even with my pain meds, my regular Oxycodone is from Qualitest which is another generic, but seemed to give some relief for about 3 hours, lowered my pain level from a 7 to a 3-4. If you get a med like this one from Caraco, make sure and file with the FDA that it is ineffective, gave you headaches, whatever. The form is online. This is the US we shouldn't have to put up with substandard meds with our insurance, and paying cash and all.
