I have taken Cymbalta 60mg once a day for over 5 years now. Up until about 6 months ago, Cymbalta was ideal for me after spending years testing out different anti-depressents. I have major depression and severe anxiety. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar medication change (specifically Cymbalta to Prestiq) and, if so, what was the difference between the two and were there any side effects. With Cymbalta, I did gain a little weight, lose sexual sensitivity (especially the ability to orgasm), and feel extremely tired.
You just told my story. I was on Cymbalta for over 5 years. Worked great excpet for the weight gain, sexual dysfunction and tiredness. I recently about 6 months ago switched to Pristiq. I love it. No more weight gain, have lost 25 lbs. No more tiredness, sleep a regular 8 hours now with no afternoon nap. Only problem is still can't orgasm.
When I stopped the Cymbalta I slowly weaned off and started the Pristiq. I had some mild nausea and headache in the beginning but it went away with continued use. I highly recommend the Pristiq.
I too was on Cymbalta for yrs and my doctor switched to Pristiq for a short while but it did nothing for me. He switched me back to Cymbalta but I still am crying alot, sad thoughts, up and down mood. I dont want to add more meds on top but I need to feel better about my self and my life and my husband and marriage. I switched from traditional therapy to Christian "bible focused" therapy. I am a christian but still have problems. I hope the best outcome for you.
Cymbalta was doing nothing for my anxiety or nerve pain and my new primary doc said Pristiq works wonders for anxiety. Both are SRNI's so switching after many years was a breeze. I took a 1/2 dose of cymbalta anyway for the first 5 days. It was probably not necessary. Pristiq has worked wonders for my anxiety. no sexual side effect, no weight gain. no more carrying around xanax "just in case".
I just switched from Cymbalta to Pristiq and the biggest side effects I have had are agitation and the runs. My dr switched my anxiety meds which has helped but so far ( only 2 days) sleep has not come easily. I also have zero appetite.
I hope it helps. They tell me it will get better within a week. Let's hope so I was on cymbalta for 8 yrs.
