Any suggestions? I have tried varying the time I take my 800 mg of Votrient. Best time for me seems to be around 3:00 PM so I can try to eat my supper around 5:00 or 6:00. I take Zofran about 2 hours after i take Votrient but its effects are short lived. My doctor has tried me on Reglan but i started to get shaky after about a week and I couldn't get to sleep at night. I keep waking up around 2:00 or 3:00 am nauseated and throwing up. My doctor does not want to reduce me to 600 mg dose.
I am 50 years old and was diagnosed with metastatic rcc last November. They removed my right kidney with a 12 cm tumor in December. The Mets are significantly spread throughout all lobes of both lungs. I have been on votrient for almost five weeks. The first week my stomach felt a bit “wiggy” and I started having a lot of bowel movements shortly after taking the pills (800 mg) in the morning and continuing throughout the day. During the second week the nausea started kicking in too. Third week nausea got worse and vomited. Doc gave me prochlorperazine 10 mg (said it could be taken every six hours as needed). Took that in the morning with the votrient. Nausea was still there but lessened. After dinner I use a cannabis vape which eliminates the nausea (I would use it all day but unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to function coherently... ). Fourth week doc gave me zofran 8mg - allowed to take it four times a day. I took one tablet (at about 5:00am) an hour before taking the votrient each morning. It worked great. Wiped out the nausea and decreased the bowel movements back to normal. I have been off the zofran now for five days. I’ve been having a few extra bm’s, but not crazy. I also get occasional mild nausea at night but the cannabis knocks that out. I also started vaping the cannabis a couple nights ago right before going to sleep and it has greatly improved my sleep - I still roll over several times at night but feel well rested when I get out of bed in the morning. Long story short - try taking the zofran an hour before the votrient and then every six hours if needed and try the cannabis at night if you haven’t already. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
