a patient of mine developed cardiac arrest post operatively. His family strongly argues that the arrest was caused by Halothane. He underwent a minore procedure of ureteric catheterization for 10 minutes only and was given inhalation of anesthesia for the purpose. he died after he woke up from anesthesia in few minutes.
Its as safe as any other anesthetic. They all have risks, that is why the patient signs a permit that includes a clause about anesthesia in this country. I don't know if its legal in the UK however. It does carry a contraindication that it shouldn't be used in patients in heart failure.
