I have fibromyalgia, pseudotumor cerebri, and deal with chronic pain. I don't drink alcohol, but do take 10-20 mg. of hydrocodone/500mg. a day,for pain. Can this be affecting the test, and does this show liver damage?
The GGT test and the ALT test are indicators for liver damage. I am unclear as to how much hydrocodone you take a day. You take 10 or 20 mgs of hydrocodone a day or you take 10 to 20 pills a day? Taking 10 to 20 mgs a day of hydrocodone with the acetominophen is not enough to cause liver damage, but if you are taking 10 to 20 pills, then the acetominophen could be causing a problem. Let me explain, the first number in the fornula is the amount of hydrocodone in the pill while the second number is the amount of acetominophen. So depending on the strength of pill you have you might have 10/500 which would be 10mgs hydrocodone with 500mgs acetominophen. The acetominophen is the medicine that can hurt the liver. The maximum acetominophen to take in 24 hours is 4000mgs.
To understand more about these two tests I found the following sites for you:
I would get your doctor to explain your test results to you. As you can read, these tests do indicate the condition of the liver amongst a few other things, so understanding the actual results would be important.
