Does Guaifenesin work for fibromyalgia and not for chronic myofascial pain? I just got done looking at all the fibromyalgia medications and ratings that people put on them along with comments and I was absolutely amazed how many people reported a benefit. I take guaifenesin OTC and a cheap brand because I am disabled (without benefits) and I have not ever noticed it helping my pain levels. If anyone knows the secret recipe, please share!!
There has been proof that the dr who thought that one up had no scientific basis for it. It has been deemed useless by the people who study this stuff. For one thing, you have to take alot of it, and can't take any aspirin at all or it negates any effect it may have. I know of some people who tried it and they followed the no aspirin thing and the dosage, and they got nothing out of it. I figured early on that its way too expensive and I take aspirin, so why even try.
Hi mfpdfibro, I tried it for both fibro and myofascia pain, to no avail. It was costly and this is kind of funny, but I STUNK like cough syrup!! My husband swore up and down that I did not stink, but I swear I stunk to high heaven! LOL, thank the good Lord that is gone!
If you want to try this, there is a strict way to do it, yet I cannot give you this info, as I didn't follow the strict rules of Guaifenesin Therapy.
Please, google it, or try to email Dr. Starland or is it Starlynd?
I wish you the best, and stock up on your favorite cologne gurl, you are gonna need it! (just kidding, you won't smell funky!)
Hi, I never heard if the theory was shot down, but I did try it years ago and I got SOOO sick!!! I couldn't handle the therapy for more than a week. I just couldn't take the pain anymore!!
Supposedly, you do go through more pain, as it is pulling whatever out of your body, and boy did I have pain. So if it has been proven not to work, please wait until you know, because the pain was just awful!!
I do not understand why people think taking guaifenesin is expensive. You can get 800 tablets at Costco for $10. At CVS it was $8 for 30, which is more expensive, but not outrageous. Anyway, I have had this horrid pain for 11 months. I have seen orthopedic doctors and even had a cortisone shot in my hip. I was planning on getting one in my spine soon. I saw something about guai online on one particularly bad day and figured, what the hell. Went to CVS (because it's a lot closer than Costco) and tried 400 mg instant release. With in 30 minutes I was fast asleep and slept for 3 hours, seriously hard nap from 1 till 4 pm. When I woke up, I was groggy but the pain was gone!!! Yes, folks. I didn't do a protocol, just took one pill. I had a little hip pain left, but the burning aching horridness was gone. Next day later, 9ish, incase I fell asleep again, I took another. I didn't crash like the day before but went to bed early.
The next day my residual hip pain was gone!!! OMG. OMG. OMG. Sorry if this didn't work for you, but it did for me, totally. Maybe I'm lucky and it doesn't work for everyone, but for my $8 I'm cured. Try it. If it doesn't work, or it hurts more, stop. But I swear to you, it did work for me.
