He is allergic to codeine, but can take Hydrocodone, and Oxycodone. I was curious if he could safely take OxycontIn with his codeine allergy.
This is simple and I'm surprised by the circular answers it's received. Oxycodone is an IR medication (immediate release) and Oxycotin is a ER medication (Extended Release). They are both the same base drug, just packaged in a different delivery method. Oxycodone is for short term pain or breakthrough pain while Oxycotin is for long term or chronic pain.
If he can take oxycodone he can take Oxycotin, should the doctor prescribe it to him that is.
Hope this helps and I hope this has already been resolved considering the date on the question.
