i am having memory problems, and they are getting worse, and when reading the package leaflet of cymbalta , i can see that it may be the cause of all conditions i have acquired resently. High Blood Pressure, Hypothyroidism, Memory problems and so forth and now Nightmares during the day.
What dosage are you on? and how long have you been taking it?
Yes Cymbalta can cause all kinds of problems but in order to suggest how to wean off of it I would need to know the dosage you are taking and how long you have been on it.
It is recommended that you decrease your dosage by no more than 20 or 30mg at a time but even that can have some side effects.
Let me know what you are taking and I will tell you what I would do. I had to stop taking cymbalta in the spring and it was rough but I am so glad I got off it.
Your doctor may have a plan for tapering off it so you could always call and see what your doctor suggests.
It took me a year and a half to get off 120 mgs of Cymbalta. I couldn't handle the extreme mood swings when dropping by 30 mgs, that was too large of a drop. So I'd open a capsule and take out 3 of the little pills inside. Next week I'd remove 5. If I started getting moody (which happened a lot!) I would stay the same for a week, or however long it took to not cause mood swings. Then I'd take some more of the little pills out, until I had dropped 30 mgs of Cymbalta. Then I'd do the same for the next 30 mgs. I must say that I had a major depression during this time, so I had to stop decreasing my dose for 6 months to stabilize. Then I started decreasing again. I did get off it, and it wasn't too bad. Just took a long time! EJ23
Cymbalta is a very hard drug to stop all at once... It needs to be stopped in baby steps and sometimes with a another drug depending on your dosage.
You should consult a doctor to figure out how much you need to take out of each capsule. I had a relative who started by empty capsules and took maybe 2 or 3
. out and stayed on that dosage for a few weeks... Like if you are on 60 mgs... maybe go for 58,,, then 55 for a few weeks... etc... The side effect are terrible if you take too much out at once... some people end up in the hospital because it is horrendous... Many of us... if we had known about this before hand would never have been put on this drug... Good luck ... Memory loss could also be caused by hypothyroidism... the nightmares during the day can is cause by certain drugs... or have you already started coming off cymbalta? Might you be taking another antidepressant like Trazdone... for sleep at night?
